CABLE CARS:
After weeks of hinting towards going to the cable cars, we
finally went! They were so amazing! We were at 12 thousand feet and it was
killing us! Our lungs felt like the size of walnuts! It was at least 20 degrees
colder than it was down in the city.
The prices for the cable cars were very discriminatory.
Locals only had to pay 5 dollars and the tourists had to pay 9. When we got up
to the box office to buy our tickets, Juan stood to the side and said that he
wouldn’t be able to go on the cable cars because he thought that they were only
3 dollars and that he would wait at the bottom. I told him that he was being
ridiculous and that I could loan him some money. He said, “Okay can I have 5
dollars?” We were irritated because we KNEW that he was at least expecting to
pay 3 dollars, so why wouldn’t he put 3 dollars of his own money and ask me to
loan him 2 dollars?? I gave him 5
dollars, wondering if I would ever see it again. He paid for mine and Kassara’s
bus ride home, which totaled to 50 cents. We told him that he didn’t have to do
that and that we had change and he said, “It’s okay. You paid for my cable car ride! I guess that
answers my question about whether or not I will see that 5 dollars again…
Thank goodness we had Juan there to make sure we heard all
of the history of the volcanoes! We
always get to hear more than we could ever care about. Everything was soooo
beautiful! The view was incredible. We could see the whole city! Half way
through our little hike my camera died. We were so sad because there were so
many beautiful pictures to be taken! I guess we should be glad that we got the
ones that we did J
Traveling there was really
frustrating! We thought we were taking a bus, and walked for a couple miles to
find the right one. Then Juan said that someone told him that there wasn’t a
bus that was going up that way anymore. We ended up paying 3 dollars for a taxi
to take us up the top. I like taxis. They are so much less confusing! On the
way home, Juan decided that we were taking a bus back. I know what you are thinking,
“I thought there wasn’t a bus that goes from the city to the cable cars?” our
thoughts exactly. Sometimes we feel a
bit manipulated by Juan. We walked around for an hour or so looking and waiting
for the right bus. We FINALLY found the right one and drove it for a while and
then switched buses and an hour or so later we eventually made it home. I would
be so confused if I had to ride the bus system alone!

We both thought that this grass looks like something that should be in a Dr. Seuss book!

Okay, I know it sounds like we are really bashing on Juan in the post, and we kind of are, but part of this blog is getting our feelings on paper so we can remember them someday, and this day we were frustrated! We have learned that there are many things that we just shouldn’t mention to Juan. For example, while we were waiting for the bus home at about 3 in the afternoon, we were starving to death, so naturally, we complained about how “famished” we were. Juan was very concerned and in all seriousness said, “I knew I should have listened to the spirit and made you girls eat before we went up to the cable cars.” Okay, we are in our 20’s. We know how to feed ourselves! Haha.
To suppress our immense hunger we went at got some fruit salad at our new favorite restaurant. It is so amazing! Mmmm. We really WERE tired, but tried to exaggerate it a bit so we didn’t have to act interested in more history lessons. Juan asked what was wrong with us and we just told him that we were really tired and not used to the altitude. He reciprocated with such a profound statement. He said, “I should have known not to take two girls who aren’t used to exercising on such a hard hike.” Wow. Harsh. We didn’t say that we are fat cows who don’t exercise. We exercise a lot! We just weren’t used to the elevation. P.s. You were the one complaining and saying you wished you could ride the horse, Juanny!
This is our FAVORITE fruit salad EVER!!!! mmmmmm
Ice cream on top of the fruit salad. The original is much better!
